Unathi
Bagaka Group visited Unathi Community Orphans Home in Mocoseng, Phefeni section, Mafikeng. Unathi orphanage supports foster homes caring for orphaned and vulnerable children. The home currently provides care for 96 children, majority of which are impacted and affected by HIV / AIDS. The home is open in the day time, where children are provided meals, homework support and cognitive development activities to support their development. The home is a home away from home, with the aim of alleviating dropouts due to poverty, providing phsycho social outings, kids’ club and fight against drugs abuse.
The home is run by Mrs Gertrude Gobashe who has selflessly committed her life to assisting children. The home was established mainly because there were orphans who were subjected to child labour and not attending school when foster parents were out working.
